FAQ
Common questions
What ages do you serve?
Poco a Poco Therapy serves children from birth through young adulthood, including transition-age clients with developmental, AAC, feeding, and complex communication needs. Our focus remains pediatric and developmental rather than general adult rehabilitation. Send a service request so we can confirm fit and availability.
How do I know if my child needs an evaluation?
An evaluation may be appropriate when there are concerns about speech clarity, language development, fluency, feeding, AAC, or functional communication. You do not need to know the diagnosis before reaching out.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
A referral is not always required to contact us or pursue private-pay services, but some insurance plans or service arrangements may require one. We will let you know if a referral is needed for your situation.
Where do sessions take place?
Depending on availability and clinical fit, services may be home- or community-based, and teletherapy may be considered when appropriate. We will discuss location before care begins.
How long and how often is therapy?
Session length and frequency depend on the child’s age, goals, communication needs, tolerance, and clinical recommendation. We discuss frequency after evaluation or intake review.
Do you provide therapy in Spanish?
Yes. Services can be provided in English, Spanish, or bilingually based on the child’s communication profile and family needs.
Does learning two languages cause a speech or language delay?
No. Bilingualism itself does not cause a speech or language disorder. Bilingual children may distribute skills across languages, so evaluation should consider the child’s full language experience.
Do you accept insurance?
Poco a Poco Therapy currently offers private-pay services while insurance options continue to expand. Contact us for the most current insurance participation and payment options. Ask us about superbill options if you have out-of-network benefits.
How is private health information handled?
General website forms should not contain protected health information. Clinical intake and records are handled through a secure HIPAA-compliant client system. See our Privacy & Secure Communication page for more information.
Do you offer a consultation call?
Yes. Families are welcome to ask about a complimentary 15-minute consultation call to discuss fit, concerns, and next steps before moving into the full intake process.
Do you contract with schools or districts?
Yes. Contract scopes may include bilingual evaluations and re-evaluations, direct therapy, documentation support, AAC-related services, and defined backlog, overflow, or short-term needs. Visit the Schools page for details.
